Stainless steel output to exceed 25M mt by 2020

Li Cheng, the honorary chairman of the stainless steel branch of the China Special Steel Enterprises Association, stated that by 2020 China’s output of stainless crude steel may exceed 25 million mt, while the country’s apparent consumption of stainless crude steel may surpass 20 million mt by the year in question.

Mr Li stated that China’s stainless steel industry will be strongly supported by positive policies and increased investment in construction of railways and municipal infrastructure.

Li went on to say that in the 2011-15 period China’s fixed-asset investments in railways will total RMB 3.3 trillion (US$539.2 billion), while the environmental protection and energy saving industry will constitute a pillar industry in the country.
