Keeping staples out of food processing areas is a standard practice and a GMP requirement. However, with documents still required in these premises, it is nearly impossible for operators to fully comply with this requirement.
Instead of using regular staplers, food operators can use the Stapleless Stapler from Detectamet. Made from detectable plastic, it can put together four pages by cutting, folding and inserting a tongue of paper through all the four sheets and then stitching these together. Besides preventing wire staples from accidentally getting into food or beverage, the device does not require a reload of staple wires.
CEO Sean Smith said, “We have been campaigning to eliminate metal staples from the food industry for the past two years. Personal experience of finding a used staple in a sandwich can drive a consumer into the arms of the food safety enforcers. In my case I wanted to encourage the food industry to use metal free stapling.”
Detectamet also came out with the slogan, Switch 2 Stitch, as a reminder that food companies can achieve a staple-free food zone.
