IN MINDANAO, Philippines, over 1,000 students were hospitalized after eating durian candy made by Wendy’s Durian Candy, according to a news report in the Philippine Star. As of this writing, authorities are still determining whether the product that caused poisoning in several municipalities in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Sur, is expired or contaminated.
The victims who were hospitalized over the weekend had been discharged. There were no fatalities.
Initial investigations show that the local maker although operating for six years, is not registered with the Food & Drug Administration. Owner Wendy Aquino maintained she sold good quality product. Several others who are allegedly connected with reselling or distributing the product are being detained for questioning.
