Traveling at speeds exceeding 200 mph, NASCAR drivers rely on their windshields to provide a clear view of the track and help protect them from flying debris. For the 2013 NASCAR season, Five Star Race Car Bodies selected Makrolon? polycarbonate sheet from Bayer MaterialScience LLC for this demanding application.“We are using Bayer polycarbonate sheet exclusively for all of our racing window needs,” said Carl Schultz, president and owner, Five Star Race Car Bodies. “Bayer’s material provides drivers with the highest optical windshield, while also offering protection from debris and flying objects.”
Makrolon? SQ polycarbonate sheet is UV stabilized, impact resistant, transparent sheet and offers a polished surface. Targeted optical quality is achieved through state-of-the-art extrusion and inspection processes. Quality limits for distortion, inclusions and surface defects are customized to meet each customer’s specific application requirements.
“This project is just the latest example of how Bayer works closely with customers to overcome challenges and bring their products to market,” said Brian Heine, senior sales manager, Central U.S., Bayer MaterialScience.
Five Star Race Car Bodies, located in Twin Lakes, Wis., has manufactured molded polycarbonate windows for NASCAR since 1992.
