AN EU-funded project called Ecofood-SME aims to increase awareness on environmental sustainability in the agro-food sector, particularly in Germany and Spain. Led by Intechnica, a sustainable development consultancy, the project offers support to companies in the brewery and baking businesses. According to youris.com, initial interviews with breweries and bakeries revealed a general concern with lowering energy use, but less interest in other environmental issues like reducing carbon footprint. Based on Ecofood assessment, experts believe many small steps are needed to get companies to adopt a greener approach.
