Creating hair styling products that meet performance and cost requirements is challenging enough. For formulators charged with creating systems that will satisfy the desire of today’s discriminating consumer for increased sustainability and high performance, making products more natural without sacrificing performance, aesthetics or affordability may seem nearly impossible. The Sustainable Solutions for Styling portfolio of naturally-derived and sustainable biopolymers created by AkzoNobel Personal Care provides the potential to change all that. And now a new benchtop kit puts that multi-faceted potential right at the formulator’s fingertips.
The benchtop kit brings together three of AkzoNobel’s landmark innovations in naturally-derived polymer technology: BIOSTYLE(c) CGP fixative polymer (INCI: Maltodextrin/VP Copolymer), AMAZE(tm) XT styling polymer(INCI: Dehydroxanthan Gum) and STRUCTURE(tm) STYLE polymer(INCI: Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate). Based on starting materials of maltodextrin, xantham gum and potato starch – all naturally- derived and renewable resources – these environmentally responsible styling polymers enable formulators to choose the ingredient that best meets the requirements of their final formulations: the highest possible clarity, the most natural finished product or the most economical system.
BIOSTYLE(tm) CGP fixative polymer enables formulators to create more natural, crystal-clear hair gels with AkzoNobel’s patented hybrid polymer technology, which combines the best of synthetic performance and sustainable technology. For high-performance styling systems with the highest level of natural content, the sustainable polymer of choice is AMAZE((tm) XT styling polymer, an Eco-certified, 100% renewable polymer that can serve as both a film former and a thickener for gels and other styling aids. And for formulators looking to create formulations that deliver hold, texture and incredible hair feel with a natural element that adds value, not cost, the solution is STRUCTURE(tm) STYLE polymer. Derived from potato starch, this non-GMO, high-amylopectin film former and rheology modifier provides both excellent thickening and long-lasting hold with the potential for significant savings in formulation costs.
