TAEGUTEC is expanding the TopDrill chip breaker line with two new products that boast improved machinability and longer tool life.
The company has recently introduced the “DK” chip breaker for cast iron drilling and the “DA” type for aluminum drilling. Both are available in the same size range as the current “DP” geometry inserts.
Integral in most cutting tools, chip breakers improve chip control and reduce cutting resistance to boost machining performance.
Similar to the “DP” chip breaker, the new geometry “DK” type improves stability during cast iron material machining, lowers operating costs, ands delay tool wear. But unlike its “DP” predecessor, the “DK” variety uses the TT6080 grade to improve wear resistance when machining cast iron. Case studies show this new addition to TaeguTec’s highly popular TopDrill line extends tool life by as much as 88% while machining ductile cast iron workpieces.
The “DA” chip breaker features a polished top face surface and a sharp edge to reduce cutting resistance and built-up-edges while drilling into aluminum workpieces. This helps prevent chipping and fracturing of the cutting edge normally caused by vibration. Case studies involving aluminum workpieces show the “DA” tool was capable of transforming chips into pellet-sized shards that were quickly and efficiently evacuated from the insert through the advanced body and flute design, which in turn prevents any damage to the drill or workpiece.
