Despite organising the show during challenging times, over 2,300 booths were occupied, a 13% increase from the previous event. Ten other countries are participating, including for the first time China, which demonstrates the developments in the plastics industry from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Stressing the importance of the plastics industry in Taiwan’s overall economic development, Mr. Wayne Wu said: “Taiwan's edge in the plastics industry is that we have a full supply chain and this gives us an advantage in terms of competitive pricing. The plastics & rubber industry generated NTD1.6 billion in revenues, primarily in exports, and is the country's 4th largest exporting industry.” At this year’s TaipeiPlas, 2,000 buyers were invited to attend, according to Mr. Wu, and this will increase significantly the amount of transactions during and even after the show.
New services and features have been added at this year’s edition. For instance, one-on-one procurement meetings have been scheduled with buyers from nine emerging markets, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey, and in the Middle East. About 60 different companies will take part in this value-added service provided at the show.
Another highlight is the signing of the memorandum of understanding between TaipeiPlas and Plast Eurasia of Turkey to encourage cross-border exchanges between the Taiwanese plastics and rubber industry and its Turkish counterpart, and enhance exchanges between the 2 countries and bring the two industries closer.
