The annual meeting of the Taiwan Society for Metal Heat Treatment was held in Feng Chia University and many professors and students who contributed to this field were given awards. The annual meeting is meant to promote the cooperation of academics and industry, thus advancing the development of the Taiwan industry. The society was founded in 1978 and is one of the oldest and authoritative industrial societies. Prof. Yong-Chwang Chen of National Taiwan University was given an award and there were also two awards for dissertations on metal heat treatment. Moreover, there are several awards funded by private corporations such as Zhen Feng dissertation award and Zheng Tai scholarship.
During 2012, the Taiwanese government and several private associations worked together to promote cooperation between academic schools and private companies because the two need to be tightly bonded to produce benefits.
The discussions during the annual meeting included heat treatment, alloy, braze welding, and metallic membrane plating. There were also three reports about technology that were recognized as very practical. The host invited Zhong-He Fu, CEO of Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) to give a lecture titled “Deep plowing in key technology and advancing in industrial competitiveness”. Chairman of Chung Hung Steel Corporation also participated in the meeting and gave a lecture titled “Industry in 2.5 degree”.
Many other private corporations responded to this meeting by providing several awards to professors and their teams in the study of the metal industry. These awards help the encouragement of youth’s dedication to conventional industries in Taiwan. This is very important to keep attract youth to the industry since there is a lack of talent.
