Teijin Limited has started OEM production of its new phosphorus flame retardant FCX-210 at a plant operated by Chitec Technology, a chemical manufacturer based in Taipei, Taiwan. Production began at a 1,000-tons-per-annum.
FCX-210 is a new type of phosphorus flame retardant incorporating Teijin’s proprietary molecular design technology. It is capable of enhancing flame retardance in a broad range of resins, including ABS, polystyrene and nylon, materials in which conventional phosphorus flame retardants are less effective. Only a small amount of FCX-210 needs to be added, thus the original properties of the base resins are maintained. It also is halogen-free, an increasing demand among environmentally conscious manufacturers.

FCX-210 has been developed in response for current market demand for enhanced safety and reduced environmental impact in the automotive and electronics fields. Teijin is banking on projected high sales of flame retardant materials which is expected to reach $33.9 million by 2018.
After developing FCX-210 in 2013, Teijin signed a manufacturing license agreement with Chitec Technology, which subsequently invested in and constructed a mass-production facility at a cost of $12.9 million.
