
GLOBAL medical device manufacturer Terumo BCT has opened a new 91,440-square-meter facility near Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. When manufacturing operations begin in early 2015, the $100-million facility will provide increased production capacity to support the expansion of Terumo BCT’s global business for blood component, therapeutic apheresis and cellular technologies. the new manufacturing facility.
Craig Rinehardt, executive vice president for Global Operations at Terumo BCT, said the forthcoming global capacity and advancing manufacturing techniques at the Vietnamese facility represents the company’s commitment to increase product speed to market.
Speaking at the opening on Thursday, Yutaro Shintaku, president and representative director, Terumo Corporation, said: “Terumo BCT’s new Viet Nam facility is the most recent example of how Terumo Corporation is investing in its capabilities globally and the opening of this facility is an exciting new step for us. We are optimistic about the opportunities this new facility provides for us to participate in the region’s growth and live our mission of contributing to society through healthcare.”
Whole blood bags and disposables for automated collections will be manufactured in Viet Nam. The facility, when operational, will join six other countries where Terumo BCT products are manufactured: Belgium, China, India, Japan, Northern Ireland, and the United States.
Once fully staffed, the building near Ho Chi Minh City is expected to accommodate more than 900 new associates. Terumo BCT currently has more than 4,800 associates, and serves three primary customer segments in more than 120 countries and territories: Blood Centers, Therapeutic Apheresis and Cell Collections, and Cell Processing.
