TETRA Pak has launched a handbook on the role of raw milk quality in UHT production.
Targeted at quality managers of dairy companies in emerging markets, the handbook adopts best practices from leading dairy companies to discuss ways to guarantee raw milk quality before processing. It emphasises key points such as dairy farm operation, raw milk transportation, and handling and testing at the plant.

The new comprehensive guide book is a result of collaboration efforts with sister company DeLaval, a major manufacturing of milking equipment and solutions for dairy farmers. It will support the quality management program being implemented by Tetra Pak’s customers and provide a holistic approach in maintaining consistency and quality in the processing cycle from farm to shelf, according to Bengt Eliasson, manager of the Centre of Expertise Dairy & Beverage Systems at Tetra Pak.
Mr Eliasson said that raw milk quality has a significant impact on the ultimate quality of the final UHT products and affects the efficiency and operational costs of processing machinery. With the dairy industry becoming more competitive, companies need to be able to sustain longer running hours while keeping maintenance problems in check to deliver high-quality products and remain competitive.
