The certification will enable all of the company’s facilities worldwide to deliver FSC-labelled packages

TETRA PAK has recently obtained Chain of Custody (CoC) certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for all its converting plants and market companies.

The certification, which is one of FSC’s largest multi-site certifications, covers a total of 92 facilities worldwide. It will allow the packaging company to supply FSC-labelled packages from anywhere in the world.

CoC certification from FSC, an international, nongovernmental organisation that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests, serves as an assurance of environmentally appropriate forest management practices. The certification tracks wood fibres throughout the supply chain. This means any product with the FSC logo supports forest management methods that not only protect the environment but also provide social benefits and ensure economic viability.

Tetra Prisma Package with FSC label

Tetra Pak introduced the FSC certification system to the liquid food carton industry. Since launching the world’s first FSC-labelled carton in 2007, the company has delivered more than 130 billion packages with the FSC logo. It delivered 43.7 billion such packages in 2014 alone.

According to vice president for Environment Mario Abreu, the FSC logo is a highly recognisable hallmark for forest management.

“Consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the products they buy, expecting businesses to help them make better choices. Our customers now have an opportunity to demonstrate their support for responsible forestry anywhere in the world. As a major user of paperboard, we feel it’s our responsibility to do what we can to help improve the management of the world's forests, which is why we are working to ensure 100% of the paperboard we use is certified,” added Mr Abreu.
