Thailand's major plastics show to benefit from FTA

The ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) implemented starting this year is expected to tremendously stimulate the transfer of goods and technology among the member countries as well as their trading partners. Moreover, it has also given great incentives to producers of plastic and rubber goods to push for improvement in their performance, quality of output and customer satisfaction to compete with rising competition. Thailand, being the strategic manufacturing hub of automotive and electronic parts which feeds the demand of many top producers, and with its solid support from the government, has naturally attracted many industrial investors to this part of the world to extend their business outreach or install new manufacturing plants. In 2010, Thailand's plastic products export is expected to reach beyond $9 million, or 10% higher compared to the previous year. Major export markets are American and Asian countries such as China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, and Vietnam. Motor vehicle and parts industry, electrical and electronics appliances, wearing apparel, footwear, construction materials, furniture, office supplies, stationery, toy, sport equipment, packaging, processed food which are top major products with the highest export value. The share of plastic products is 15% of the overall export target, according to data from the Department of Export Promotion. Thus, the business opportunities for investments into the Thai plastics industry could be as varied as the product range. Accordingly, Reed Tradex has set a stage for the 19th edition of "InterPlas Thailand" to facilitate the growth in the manufacturing sector in Thailand and the Asia Pacific. The show will gather over 35,000 ASEAN buyers who come to visit the 350 international brands from 15 countries with well respected names such as Nissei, Toyo, Matsui, McTechnos and Toshiba from Japan, Gala from USA, Woojin from Korea, and many more from China and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, all of whom expressed strong confidence in the show.
