Three processes in one tool

With the market launch of PVD-Tiger.tec cutting tool materials (PVD-Tiger) Walter AG is re-defining the machining of ISO-M and ISO-S materials. Especially for turning, a complete family of grades is now available that covers all machining conditions - good, medium, unfavourable. Like no other cutting tool material, the PVD-Tiger.tec grades combine the high toughness of conventional PVD-coated grades (TiN, TiCN and TiAlN-based) with the high level of hardness and temperature resistance of CVD cutting tool materials (Al2O3-based). With these cutting tool materials Walter has managed to deposit the hard Al2O3 layer using the PVD technique. Walter is adding the grade WSM10 to the already familiar "PVD-Tigers" WSM30 and WSM20 for unfavourable to medium conditions. This new grade is based on an ultrafine grain substrate with high resistance to deformation. Given low-vibration machining conditions, this cutting tool material currently offers the highest possible performance during the machining of austenitic steels, super alloys and titanium materials.
