What is your opinion on the global development in machine tool?
Yeh: The competition is heating up now. The Chinese have their own brands and the financially-strong Koreans are expanding rapidly. We have to develop our advantage in two aspects: technology and management. If we do not distinguish ourselves by having superior technology, then whatever improvement we make to our products will be superficial.

You also produce motorcycles. Does this helps the machine tool operation?
Yeh: Yes. We designed, developed and manufactured the engines of Hartford motorcycles. We used our own machine tools to produce the facilities for the manufacturing of the engines.  We are able to manufacture engines of 650 cc capacity.  In the production line, we use automation to help us in our processes.  By applying our expertise in automation onto the shop floor, we have a real life showcase to show our customers when we are promoting FA and FMS to them.

What is your assessment of the machine tool industry in 2013?
Yeh: In 2012 we saw the economy bottoming out, and now in 2013, there are signs of recovery and increasing growth.  With the rise of emerging markets and consumer demand, there is a corresponding increase for the demand of machine tools. When we are forecasting the future, we must distinguish the effects caused by cyclical ups and downs and by our own structural weakness.  Therefore, we must address our own structural weakness and take steps to improve our competitiveness.  When we are competitive and productive, then there is no need to worry about cyclical effects.

What is your expectation of TIMTOS 2013?

Yeh: We are promoting the PMB Precision Boring Milling machine series and AHC Auto-Head Change Flexible Application Machining Center series. TIMTOS is a big show and we have invited more than a hundred agents and customers to visit our booth.  Regrettably, there is a lack of space in the exhibition hall.  We hope that the authority can look into this problem.
