Toshiba Medical opens procurement center in Shanghai

OTAWARA, Japan – Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation said it has opened its Chinese Procurement Center in Shanghai. The Center is located in the Procurement Office of Toshiba China, which is Toshiba Corporation's overseas subsidiary for regional coordination.

Procurement bases were previously based in Dalian, China, and in the Toshiba Medical Systems headquarters in Otawara. By opening the center in Shanghai, the company said its headquarters will be positioned as the global procurement control center that will operate a cooperative procurement system consisting of three bases, including the Toshiba Dalian medical equipment factory, which is their overseas manufacturing subsidiary in China.

Procurement staff with working experience in Japan and other countries and staff in the fields of product development, manufacturing technology, and quality control work together at the Chinese Procurement Center to promote procurement activities in China. The set-up takes advantage of the great potential of Chinese component/material manufacturers while maintaining the same level of quality as in Japan. This is the first trial of such an organizational structure in the Toshiba Group.

Toshiba Medical Systems plans to strengthen cooperation with sourcing staff in other business divisions of the Toshiba Group to take full advantage of the synergistic effects of the Toshiba Group's global procurement activities.
