THE fate of US-based contract food processor, OSI Group in China is now in the hands of Shanghai Jiading People’s Court, according to Reuters. Shanghai prosecutors have charged two OSI China units and 10 employees for producing and vending poor quality products.
In July last year, OSI Group’s affiliate in China, Shanghai Husi Food Co. Ltd was allegedly found to be using expired meat for products sold to its customers McDonald’s and Yum! Brands Inc. in China. Over a year of investigation led to the charging of OSI.
The trial began on Monday, December 28. If found guilty, the company could face heavy fines and employees could serve time, the news agency said.
