International Metalworking News for Asia (IMNA) visited TRUMPF Asia Pacific's headquarters in Singapore. IMNA's visit highlights the new 3D laser application lab in TRUMPF's showroom, which is designed to offer 3D laser cutting and laser welding application support to customers in South East Asia. Additionally, TRUMPF has expanded its facilities to their first Asian production site for marking lasers in Singapore. It is currently producing the TruMark 2130, a diode-pumped solid-state laser, which operates in the infrared range.
Managing Director, Dr. Hans-Peter Laubscher, and Marketing & Sales Executive, Carina Albrecht, toured IMNA through the place and showed several laser equipment. Mr Laubscher was kind enough to answer questions regarding the new assembly site and even explained the robust ability of the TruMark 2130.

IMNA: It is not often that there are production sites around this area. What made TRUMPF decide to do this?
Laubscher
: The new marking laser assembly side occupies additional 350m2, including an own office and warehouse. TRUMPF has decided to expand within the German Centre, where also its main office in Singapore is headquartered, as well as the showroom. The showroom allows an ideal platform to present the marking lasers to customers and explaining its applications in detail.
TRUMPF regards Singapore as a main hub to reach out to the Asian markets due to the well established infrastructure, qualified manpower, economical stability, and free trade agreements within the ASEAN countries.
One of the goals of expanding with an own assembly site is to gain competitive advantage by reducing lead times for supplying marking lasers to the Asian market. Being close to the market and to the customers will help us to reach the customer's needs faster and more effective.
In the long term, local sourcing of components will enable us to reduce taxes and tariffs incurred when exporting our products to the neighbouring countries.
Within our company history we have noticed that the closer we are to a market, the more successful our business becomes.

IMNA: Please tell us more about the new 3D laser application lab in your showroom; this was unveiled late last year?
Laubscher:
With the arrival of a new TruLaser Cell 3010 t o o u r s h owroom last December, TRUMPF has expanded its displayed product range in the field of laser technology. The machine is the ideal "starter" if customers decide to venture into 3D laser applications, as a cost and time effective alternative to conventional processing. In addition to the machine, we have expanded our staff to meet the increasing customer requests for customised application developments.
The great selection of machines presented in our showroom allows the ideal base to demonstrate the impact of any single process in the sheet metal manufacturing chain. Great precision is required in laser cutting, punching and bending processed, as only then a neat welding seam can be obtained. Of course, the marking of the final product for part identification or customisation is essential and can be done in our showroom as well.

IMNA: With this new 3D laser application lab, what application areas do you see as requiring more focus, and what will this application lab bring to the company and users that will ensure itAir Max 90 SACAI
