Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rise by 20%

Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose 20.04% compared to the previous month, increasing to 30,583 metric tonnes in August 2011, says the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to US$95.96 million, increasing by 22.7% as compared to July this year.

In August, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 5,410 metric tonnes, decreasing by 6.3% month on month and accounting for approximately 27 % of Turkey's total stainless flat steel imports. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in August was South Korea with 3,540 metric tonnes, increasing by 11.5% compared to July this year.

In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 229,461 metric tonnes, increasing by nine percent compared to the same period last year. Imports from Taiwan in January-August this year amounted to 52,057 metric tonnes, decreasing by 2.8% compared to the same period last year. Imports from South Korea in the first eight months of the year amounted to 36,611 metric tonnes, increasing by 57% compared to the same period last year.
