Turkish crude steel output up 6.6%

Turkey's crude steel production rose by 6.6% YoY and was up 6.8% month on month, amounting to 3.08 million mt, according to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association.

In May, steel production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) amounted to 2.37 million mt, with an increase of 11.8% compared to May 2011 and decreasing 4.9% month on month, while production via blast furances fell by 7.4% YoY to 714,000 mt, up 11.6% compared to April this year.

In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's crude steel production amounted to 15 million mt, up 10.4% YoY.
