The Turkish production of fruits and vegetables has increased again this year. According to the TurkStat (Turkish Statistical Institute) 2012 production will reach 18.3 million tonnes of fruit and 27.9 million tonnes of vegetables, an increase of 6.4%for fruit and 1.7% for vegetables compared to the previous year.
Output of apples increased by 9.8%; apricots 16.9%; plums 10.5%; cherries 9.6%; and figs 5.4%. However those for citrus are expected to drop slightly with mandarins to go down 2% and lemons by 3.9%. In vegetables, tomatoes increased 3.6%; green beans 3.1%; pepper 1.6%; and carrots 9.5%. The Institute forecasts production for onions to drop 2% and aubergines by 4.9%.
