Taiwan’s flagship show TIMTOS (Taipei Int’l Machine Tool Show) is on the up-and-up as it consolidates its lead on JIMTOF (the Japan Int’l Machine Tool Fair) as Asia’s second largest machine tool show. Taiwan’s flagship tool expo is project to smash a full slate of its own records by attracting a huge turnout of domestic and international buyers. Already 1,000 companies from 17 countries have signed on for TIMTOS to use 5,400 booths-a record number in this biennial exhibition’s history.
To promote the exhibition, organizers have mobilized their 60 foreign trade offices to target buyers in Taiwan’s 25 largest machinery importing markets. As a result more than 7,000 foreign visitors will be at TIMTOS representing key importers in Turkey, Russia, India, Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. They will be joined at the show by a projected 46,000 domestic industry visitors.
In addition to the grand scale, TIMTOS 2015 also has four more highlights according to Mr. Brain Lee, Deputy Executive Director, Exhibition Department, TAITRA, whom made a speech on Pre-show Press Conference of TIMTOS 2015: a) High efficiency automated production. It picks up the expo’s theme to promote upgraded industrial manufacturing tech that cuts labor while boosting output through intelligent, automated production technology. b) Taiwan controller appliance pavilion. The pavilion is hosted by the Precision Machinery Research and Development Center acting under a commission to the Ministry of Economic Affairs in order to respond ECFA PSR (Product Specific Rules) and to assist Taiwan controller industry in developing international markets. c) First expo of metal forming machines at Yuanshan EXPO Dome. This features Taiwan’s high-quality, cost-effective machinery. d) Record high number of foreign exhibitors. There will be 260 foreign manufacturers from 17 countries including Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Spain and the United States.
The global competitiveness of Taiwan machine tool industry is changing. What worries the industry is that Korea has signed FTA with Europe, America and Mainland China, not even mention CEPA between Korea and India. Furthermore, JPY has a sharp devalue in 2013 and 2014. All these have a serious impact on the sales of Taiwan machine tools in the international market. “In addition to the global economic recession, Taiwan manufacturers also have to face the challenges above. The only way is to develop more advanced products. TIMTOS 2015 is the best stage for manufactures in Taiwan. Before we really participate in TIMTOS 2015, our reporter of (IMNA/IMNE?) has a chance to interview some Taiwan manufacturers to see what kind of products they are going to promote in TIMTOS 2015.
WELE Mechatronic: automation and accuracy
Founded in 2007, WELE Mechatronic co., Ltd has been attending TIMTOS since 2009. With its innovative technology and outstanding products, WELE has won TIMTOS Supreme Excellence Award in succession.
In TIMTOS 2015, WELE is going to exhibit one of its new innovative multi-milling & turning center MT-W series. “MT-W series display all in one design concept to save expense, setting time and space requirement for our customers. It has not only angular head storage along W axis any position: automatic tool & head exchange available, but also stationary round type head storage containing turning head and two optional stations.” introduced Mr. Jeff Chang, the manager of Overseas Sales Department.
“It also provides various demands with vertical and horizontal milling and turning functions. The rotary table Cs axis backlash eliminated design reaches indexing in 0.001 degree incrementally.” MT-W series can be applied to oil & gas, aerospace, mining and transportation industries.

LUREN Precision: industry leader
When founded in 1994, Luren Precision Co., Ltd worked with ITRI (the Industrial Technology Research Institute) and imported the design and production technologies of gear cutting from Samputensili, Italy. Until now, Luren has four overseas sales offices in Chicago, Shanghai, Xiamen, Osaka and Hsin Chu Headquarters in Taiwan, manufacturing gear grinding machines, gear cutting tools and spinning pumps.
The main products Luren is going to show in TIMTOS 2015 are vertical gear profile grinding machine LFG-8040, which has CAM integrated system with user-friendly operator interface and scan type online measurement device; and continuous generating gear grinding machine LGA-2812, which offers high speed and high precision of mass production, twin cooling system wheel spindle and visualized user interface.
“Though China and Korea has signed FTA, I think this will not affect Luren because grinding machine field requires lots of professional knowledge and I don’t think Korea has reached this level. At this point, we are still on the top.”Mr. Ying-Ming Kuo, manager of Machine Tool Sales and Service Department answered with confidence to reporter’s question.

CHMER: root in Taiwan, think globally
Ching Hung Machinery & Electric Ind. Co., Ltd (CHMER) was founded in 1975 and is specialized in producing die-sinker EDM, wire-cut EDM and high speed milling machines for mould making industry since then.
Mr. Wuxiong Wang, president of CHMER said to the reporter during the factory tour: “Ching Hung has been dedicated to the innovation of new technologies as a pioneer of Taiwan’s EDM manufacturing industry and it is the second manufacturer in the world which can mass produce linear motor wire cut EDM and die-sinker EDM.” To meet the great demand for the products and to carry out CHMER’s ideal “Root in Taiwan, think globally”, CHMER has built the headquarters of total 28,000㎡.
In TIMTOS 2015, CHMER is going to exhibit 9 high-end and high precision linear motor machines including the world’s first gantry moving structure wire cut EDM-SP3020L with no lower arm interference and no water leakage problem, the gantry type high speed milling machine HM8060L with 3 axes driven by linear motors, as well as die-sinker EDM A6040L.

HIWIN: fulfill human needs

SHUZ TUNG: meet different demands
Established in 1978, Shuz Tung Machinery Industrial Co., Ltd has been dedicated to manufacturing of various machinery and automation equipment. More than 30 years, Shuz Tung has accumulated advanced and professional techniques for superior production quality on practical and solid ground.
Shuz Tung specializes in tube processing, manufacturing of tube bending machines, turn-key equipment for bicycles, tubes for furniture, electronic equipments, etc. The product range consists of more than 1,000 models which are sold around the world.
“We are going to exhibit 3 main products in TIMTOS 2015. One of them is auto nipple tightening M/C HT 60-060. It has features of manual loading/unloading and auto 4 nipple tightening via rotating shift. It is with 5 servo motor for shift rotating and nipple tightening stand. We also prepare a new product, which is an economic bending machine and still under development. It is cheaper than CNC model but with similar functions. CHIN FONG: constant innovation
Established in 1948, Chin Fong Machine Industrial Co., Ltd. is the biggest maker of the mechanical power presses in Taiwan and capable with the most powerful R&D ability. It is famous for offering the best quality products in the global press market.
Chin Fong has prepared three “secret weapons” for TIMTOS 2015, which is going to wow the visitors and competitors according to Mr. Yu-I Tsai, the vice president of sales. “We have 3 new presses next year: a) column type high precision press; b) link motion servo press; c) and two-point servo press. These three presses can satisfy customers’ demand for high accuracy, high precision, high stiffness, longer lifetime, multi-processing and budget control. Customers can choose the one they need according to their needs.” introduced Mr. Chao-Pang Chang, the manager of Chin Fong.
With regard to China and Korea signing FTA, Mr. Tsai showed no concern. “We knew this would happen finally and has prepared well for it. I am very confident with our technology and products. We also have plants in China mainland. So this will now affect us as much as small and medium sized manufacturers. The only way to get out of the dilemma is to maintain innovation and be the professional in this field. I have faith in Taiwan’s machine tool industry.”

YIPC: work hard to earn trust
