DLG lauds the company’s VarioSpin pressure deaerator and its role in Murau Brewery and Murau Municipal Utilities’s project to use regenerative locally produced district heat for energy supply
KRONES AG has won two prestigious DLG International FoodTec Awards in gold from the DLG (German Agricultural Society).

The Neutraubling, Germany-based company won a Gold Medal for its VarioSpin pressure deaerator. The second gold was for the path-breaking “Transformation of thermal energy systems” project involving the Murau Brewery, the Murau Municipal Utilities, and Krones AG’s Steinecker plant.

Gold twice over for Krones at the 2015 International FoodTec Awards, held every three years by DLG

Krones was among nine gold medal winners for the triennial International FoodTec Awards who received their awards at the Anuga FoodTec in Cologne last March.

Designed to ensure high product and process quality in beverage plants, the VarioSpin pressure deaerator features a specially developed swirl inlet, a vacuum tank with ingenious geometry, and type-specific process control capabilities, all of which improve quality and operational dependability.

Meanwhile, the company’s efficient energy-saving system, combined with connection to the locally produced district heat network of the Murau Municipal Utilities, has enabled the Austrian Murau Brewery to grow into one of the most economical breweries in the world.

The Steinecker EquiTherm was key to Murau Brewery’s energy supply shift to locally produced regenerative district heat, which required the development of an innovative stratified energy storage tank that is linked to all thermal energy consumers in the brewery. The project has enabled Murau Brewery to achieve less than 19 kWh for thermal energy per hl of unblended beer produced, which translates to about 30% in energy savings.
