FOOD account s for 47% of Uruguay’s industrial production, with nearly half of output exported to markets worldwide. In 2013, shipments to the UAE rose 125% compared to the previous year, proof that the country has greater confidence in the quality of Uruguay’s food and beverages. Products destined to the Emirates are citrus, fruit juice, butter, barley, rice and meat, which make up about 93% of shipments. Besides these, companies are introducing olive oil, chocolate powder, mutton, mineral water and alfajores (a Latin American confection).
