ON TUESDAY, 16 September at 10:00am (Rome time), the three UN food agencies – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) – will launch the latest edition of the annual The State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI) report.

The SOFI report raises awareness on global hunger issues, discusses underlying causes of hunger and malnutrition and monitors progress towards hunger reduction targets established at the 1996 World Food Summit and the Millennium Summit - FAO
The updated report presents estimates on the number and proportion of chronically undernourished people in the world and also reports on progress towards the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and World Food Summit (WFS) hunger targets. It includes seven case studies on hunger and malnutrition in Bolivia, Brazil, Haiti, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malawi, and Yemen.The SOFI and its main findings will be presented at a news conference at FAO’s headquarters, which will be webcast live at http://www.fao.org/webcast/. The report will also be available online from 10:00 at http://www.fao.org/publications/sofi/en/.
