Some developments in the wine and beer segments

The latest updates in the alcoholic beverage sector include the launch of cuvée Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs from PERRIER-JOUËT. It pays tribute to the vibrant freshness of the Chardonnay grape. To create it, seventh in an unbroken line of cellar masters, Hervé Deschamps blended Chardonnays from the region’s finest terroirs, adding up to 15% of reserve wines and a light dosage of 8g per liter. The result is an exceptional cuvée that dances with freshness, lightness and vitality. On the nose, lively wild hedgerow flower aromas of elderberry, acacia and honeysuckle tangle and twist with notes of citrus fruit.

The new cuvée is the second Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs creation by Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps, following his mythic Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs

In Napa Valley, the Francis Ford Coppola Winery added sparkling wines to its Sofia range. Sofia Brut Rosé’s spiced berry accents are laced with tea leaves, a touch of clove, and crisp, refreshing flavors of tart red currants, pomegranate, strawberries, and peaches.

“Unlike Sofia’s still Rosé, which is crafted from Rhone varietals, Sofia Brut Rosé is made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, offering alluring aromatic flavors that pair well with assorted cheeses and charcuterie, hors d'oeuvres, shellfish, and spicy Asian cuisine,” says President & Director of Winemaking Corey Beck.

The 2016 Sofia Brut Rosé shares similar packaging with its legendary predecessor, the Sofia Blanc de Blancs, which revolutionized wine-in-a-can with its fun pink minis over a decade ago. The Brut Rosé’s 750ml bottles will be wrapped in clear cellophane to show off the brilliant color of the wine with its stylish peach 187ml mini cans (including straws) available in single servings or decorative peach four-packs for use on the beach, at the park or by the pool.

Meanwhile, Kavalan has been reaping accolades here and there. At the 2017 International Spirits Challenge (ISC), Taiwan’s first whisky distillery received four gold awards. One of the Gold medals was for the new 10th anniversary “Kavalan Distillery Reserve Single Malt Whisky Rum Cask.” The three other golds were awarded to Kavalan’s Solist ex-Bourbon Single Cask Strength, Podium, and ex-Bourbon Oak. The rum-aged whisky’s color is described as “Deep, burnished gold like a Caribbean sunset.”

Advocating responsible drinking, Diageo has launched an online e-learning module called DRINKiQ designed to provide consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions about drinking responsibly. The module, which was originally a live interactive training used by Diageo for several years to educate employees and with external partners, is now available on Diageo's DRINKiQ website at https://www.DRINKiQ.com/en-us/DRINKiQ-course/whats-your-drink-iq.  The module is available now in the UK, U.S. and Australia, with localized versions rolling out to 20 other countries.

For those that require thermoelectric modules for small wine cellars, LG Innotek from Korea recently reported that is has mass-produced its ow modules which make it possible to produce smaller and lighter wine cellars. The module width and height are approximately half of those of an A4 Paper and its thickness is only 8.5cm. Its volume is about 60% of the whole compressor volume. It does not use a separate refrigerant and does not cause vibration and protects the environment. (A thermoelectric module is an electronic cooling and heating component that controls temperature by supplying electricity to a semiconductor element. It uses the “Peltier effect” in which, when electricity flows to metals of different properties, one side is heated and the other side is cooled.)

The beer segment shows no signs of slowing, especially in Asia. This strong growth is one of the reasons the beer dispenser market remains robust as well. According to a report from Research and Markets, the global commercial beer dispensers market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.45% during the period 2017-2021.

One trend in market is increasing preference for energy-efficient beer dispensers. Vendors and end-users are working toward reducing their carbon footprint in view of the global warming and high energy usage. Vendors are introducing environmentally friendly beer dispenser equipment, appealing to the eco-consciousness of operators in the end-user market.

One driver in market is growing demand for chilled beer. The growth of the beer dispensers market is directly proportional to the growth in the alcoholic beverages industry.
