Metalworking
CORNING Inc.  announced the availability of its innovative MACOR® machinable glass ceramic material for electronics and semiconductor applications across Asia.

Designed with the production of precision components in mind, MACOR lends itself to the rapid development of devices in the electronics industry. Due to the material’s unique properties, MACOR can be easily manipulated to form integral parts of innovative electronic prototypes. This is achieved through its ability to be machined by conventional metal working tools, drastically reducing development time.

“While being a high performing material, the cost of switching to a material like MACOR does not require new machinery, making it easier and faster to test new electronic products,” explained Franck de Lorgeril, global marketing and sales manager, Industrial Products at Corning. “There is a constant expectation for industry innovation, and it is therefore vital that manufacturers have access to high-quality and trusted material solutions, such as MACOR.”

MACOR is also:
A versatile ceramic material with technical strength and insulation properties exceeding high performance plastics
Tolerant (up to 0.0005 inches; it can be machined to a surface finish of less than 20 micro-inches, and polished to a smoothness of 0.5 micro-inches AA)
Low density (2.5g/cm3)
Joinable, both to itself and to a wide range of materials
Fast turnaround, requiring no post-firing
Stable in high temperatures with zero porosity and outgassing

As a high-performance ceramic material that can perform in even the most demanding manufacturing environments, MACOR allows for shorter and faster production processes. Combined with Corning’s reputable customer service and fast delivery of materials, this enables new products to get to market quicker. MACOR has already proven ideal for use in a range of applications in industries such as aerospace, electronics, medical, high vacuum, and laser. It is a trusted foundation and widely used across Europe and the United States.
