One of the largest manufacturers of machine tools in Taiwan, the company offers more than 70 makes and models to suit the needs of diverse markets. Product lines include vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, horizontal boring milling machining centers and CNC turning centers.
Many of these products were on display at IMTS 2012, including the NTV158B vertical machining center that is specially developed for the die and mold industry. The high efficiency NTV158B has a Z-axis dual drive system and roller type guideways on all axes to ensure perfect rapid feed rate, which is suitable for various heavy cutting applications.
“Our NTV, NSV and NDV lines have been completely revamped to provide Japanese quality at a value price level,” explained Brian Arcari, president, YCM Americas, Inc. “We serve a niche in the market between the very high end products and commodity lines.”
YCM controls the entire production process for their machine tools from design to pattern making, casting and flexible manufacturing, ensuring high quality. It is the only machine tool company in Taiwan with its own foundry.
The highly integrated production allows YCM to capitalize on market trends by bringing products to market sooner, according to Arcari. For example, early next year YCM is planning to introduce the NH800, a larger horizontal machining center with faster turning speeds and a large swing diameter required by the oil industry and other energy producers that have been growing over the last few years. Also on tap for late 2013 is a high-end lathe line that will be a multi-axis, multi-spindle, multi-tool product. These types of products will continue YCM’s mission of adding value for customers and reaffirming its position as a global force in the machine tool industry.
YCM is one of the many companies at IMTS 2012 that illustrated the growing power of Taiwan’s machine tool industry. Taiwan is the world’s fourth largest exporter of machine tools and ranks sixth overall in global production with sales of US $5 billion. There are more than 500 machine tool manufacturers in Taiwan and it is the country’s most important industry by value, according to officials from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), which helped support Taiwan’s exhibitors at IMTS 2012.
