Vintage liquors to sell for $8 mn

A HISTORIC collection of over 5,000 bottled vintage liquors, including 250 years old cognac, whisky, Armagnac, port, Madeira and rare liqueurs, will be sold for USD 8 mn, its Dutch owner said.
Bay van der Bunt, 63, who owns "world's largest collection of old liquors" is a teetotaller who inherited part of the collection from his liquor cache from his father and has spent decades finding the rarest and finest spirits on earth. Mr Van der Bunt and his wife do not have any children or potential heirs who would be able to take care of their prized collection. "So sadly, I have to let it go," he said.
Many of the cognacs date back to 1789, the year of the French revolution and the inauguration of George Washington as the first president of the United States. It would take another two to three generations to gather a similar collection, he said.

"Collecting cognacs and old liquors was very time consuming and cost a fortune, but it proves to be the best financial investment I have ever made," Mr Van der Bunt said.
