Vitiva eyes natural bath products segment

TRADITIONALLY, the soap and bath products industry uses synthetic antioxidants such as BHA and BHT as preservatives to help manage oxidation and extend shelf life. Growing environmental concerns have driven the demand for natural ingredients, such as Inolens 4, an all-natural rosemary formula for extending shelf life and stability of natural soap and shower gel from Vitiva Slovenia. "This market is constantly searching products which maintain performance characteristics, but at the same time reduce environmental impact," explains Dushka Dimitrijevic, Technical Sales director of Vitiva. "Our natural rosemary formula can help in creating eco-friendly soap and bath products." According to Natural Foods Merchandiser, the natural products industry grew by 11% in just the last few years, exceeding $28 billion. Natural body care products experienced similar growth, NFM reported, with sales increasing by more than 12%. In recent trials, adding Inolens 4 to natural soaps extended shelf life up to 50% in comparison to BHA or BHT (at 200 ppm), even at low dosages of 40 ppm of active ingredient. When used in higher dosages, this rosemary formula can be complementary to soap and gel fragrance.
