When we think food insecurity, our minds go to developing countries. But really, it can be anywhere, including rich countries. In the United States, millions suffer from hunger. Food insecurity is the inadequate intake of food as a result of lack of resources. In 2011, food insecurity affected roughly one in six US households. More than 50 million people, including almost 17 million children, suffer from food security issues at some time each year.
A white paper developed by ProMedica and the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease examines the extent of hunger in the richest country in the world.
