35 companies received the Ringier Technology Innovation Award this year

SHANGHAI - The 2014 Ringier Technology Innovation Awards for the Plastics Industry were presented during a ceremony held on 21 August in Shanghai. For the past eight years, the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards have successfully given tribute to many companies that have made their mark in this highly dynamic industry through their innovative products and technologies. This year, 35 companies received the Award, reflecting a rising number of companies in China’s plastics industry that have undertaken R&D efforts to develop cutting-edge technologies and products.

Organized by Ringier Trade Media Ltd. together with its magazines, International Plastics News for China and International Plastics News for Asia, the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards are designed to drive innovation in China’s plastics industry and bring more high quality products and cutting-edge technologies to the industry by honoring products and technologies with outstanding contributions to the industry.

Ringier Plastics Technology Innovation Award

“We are committed to establishing a platform for innovative product and technology exchanges through the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards. The Program aims at encouraging the development process of China's plastics industry, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of industry enterprises, especially local enterprises, as they look beyond toward the global market. This is Ringier Trade Media’s responsibility and mission as an industrial information provider,” said Mr. Michael Hay, President of Ringier Trade Media.

The Awarding Ceremony and Gala Dinner held on 21 August welcomed more than 100 high-level delegates from winning companies, panel of expert judges, industry professionals and representatives from the media. In his speech, Mr. Hay stressed the important elements of the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards, “This Award Program selection process focuses on three key elements. It must be fair, honest and transparent. The winning product must truly be an innovation under a defined set of criteria to judge. The panel of judges is composed of experts in their own fields, independent and well qualified to determine the winners. We have strived to make this program truly special and different from other such programs in China.”

Following a strict selection process, winners came from across 10 categories covering raw materials and additives, injection molding technology, extrusion blow molding machinery, auxiliary equipment (components), mold and accessories, material handling, automation, measurement and testing, application innovation technologies, etc. The criteria considered only those companies with established technical and R&D capabilities along with some special qualifications. The winning products under the category of Raw Materials and Additives all perform well in containing such properties as being non-toxic, high-temperature stability and one-step forming. Plastics processing technologies including injection molding and extrusion/blow molding tend to focus more on operational considerations such as functionality, cost-efficiency and sustainability/energy cost reduction.

Special guests for the awarding ceremony included: Mr. Qin Jianwang, Secretary General of Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry; Mr. Yuan Guoqing, Director of Institute of Composite Materials and Structures, School of Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics of Tongji University; Mr. Chen Gengxin, Expert Committee Member of China Plastics Processing Industry Association; Mr. Tao Guoyuan, Deputy Secretary General of China Plastics Engineering Technology Society Shanghai Branch; Mr. Dong Fangyuan, Secretary General of Shanghai Association of Die &Mould; and Mr. Chen Shixin, Director of Expert Dept., Shanghai Society for Advanced Materials.
