
Zamil Steel has operated in over 90 countries since 1977, providing pre-engineered steel buildings, engineering solution and many other quality building products globally. In that time the company has supplied over 50,000 steel structures worldwide, with South East Asia figuring prominently in this growth. Since commencing production in Vietnam in 1999, the company has experienced tremendous expansion in their operations, and Zamil Steel Vietnam has been honoured as winner of the 'Golden Dragon' prize for the best construction and construction material product by the Vietnam Economic Times and Ministry of Planning & Investment of Vietnam for seven consecutive years, since 2003. Recently, Anthony Evans of International Metalworking News Asia spoke to Mr. George Kobrossy, the General Director of Zamil Steel Vietnam about the company's experiences operating in one of the region's fastest developing economies.
IMNA: I noticed on your website you promote Zamil Steel Vietnam as 'total building solutions.' What type of building products and services do you offer your customers? Kobrossy: At Zamil Steel Vietnam, we take great pride in providing a complete range of steel building products and services to our clients. This product range includes low-mid rise industrial buildings, air-craft hangars, column-free wide-span exhibition halls, complex high-rise buildings, petro-chemical plants, stadiums, warehouse and the list is virtually limitless. ZSV has a very diverse product line, and this is what sets us apart from other manufacturers in the market. With the engineering expertise in pre-engineered buildings, structural steel on an open web steel joist, ZSV can develop very specialised hybrid building solutions that can better adapt to the requirements of a rapidly growing demand for more complex building envelopes. On many occasions, ZSV is involved in the very preliminary stages of a projects development, where we provide design proposals and budget costing, in order for our clients to secure financing of their projects. The majority of our contracts include the design, manufacture and installation of the complete steel building system, everything from the ground up. We also supply re-roofing materials and installation, and component sales for those looking to build or repair their own building. Basically, we provide any product or service required to design, build or install any type of steel building, like our slogan says - "Total Building Solutions."
IMNA: What do you believe sets apart Zamil Steel's products and services from its regional competitors? Kobrossy: Zamil Steel Group has got a big global network with over eight manufacturing plants in five countries and over 60 offices around the world. This extensive global network serves many customers with different needs and geographies. With over 30 years experience in this industry, we understand that we can better serve our customers with more customised solutions that allow us to reach out to markets that others might not be able to. In Vietnam and Asia Pacific region, Zamil Steel is supported with two factories in Vietnam and further 17 sales offices. This regional network has enabled us to maintain the right mix of factories and sales offices locations to serve our customer better. Now, we are the leader of the steel buildings industry in this region, and we are proud to say that we have set the benchmark for the industry.
IMNA: What are some of the major projects/clients you have taken on since your company's 1997 arrival in Vietnam?
