As a major recycler in Southeast Asia, Pan Era Group has a strong background in plastic recycling with focus on implementing the highest standard in quality and environmental management systems. Pan Era was established in 1987 and started as a plastic waste crusher and trader. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the largest plastics recyclers in the region with plants located in Cikande, Cikarang and Jakarta, in Indonesia.
Wilson Pandhika, its Managing Director, was present at the company’s booth during CHINAPLAS, and gave an overview on Pan Era’s recycled resins and the company’s recycling operations. “Pan Era is a company that is engaged in plastic recycling in Indonesia. We have two manufacturing sites for recycling, and one for finished products. Our strength lies in our ability to sort materials in substantial quantities. We work with a lot of brand owners and other companies.”
Mr. Wilson Pandhika, Managing Director, Pan Era Group
At CHINAPLAS, Pan Era presented ETERLENE premium recycled resins produced by modern and sophisticated processes under stringent quality control and managed by an experienced and dedicated team to achieve sustainable solutions. ETERLENE is suitable for the production of packaging and other products. In some applications, 100% recycled composition for ETERLENE can be achieved. “We were thrilled to see the incredible interests in ETERLENE, our premium recycled PE and PP pellets, and to connect with so many passionate industry professionals who share our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” Mr. Pandhika stressed.
ETERLENE sets the standard for responsible plastic recycling being the first recycled plastic resin to achieve Halal certification from Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH) of Indonesia. Additionally, the Pan Era production facility has received certifications for Global Recycled Standard (GRS), ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management). These certifications provide independent verification of its commitment to quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing practices.
As Mr. Pandhika explained: “ETERLNE is suitable for a very wide variety of applications. Its extrusion grade is ideal for bottle production while the injection molding grade can be applied for the production of household goods, automotive, and other products. One of our most bestselling grades is ideal for the production of stretch film – with 100% LLDPE content.”
With its quality that is comparable to virgin resin, Pan Era customers can enjoy the ease of switching from virgin material to using recycled material, while also taking part in the circular plastics revolution at the same time. The company’s in-house compounding capability can also tailor-make the resin according to the customer’s requirements, such as adding colorant, anti-UV, anti-oxidant, deodorizing masterbatch, or any other additives. “We can also work with petrochemicals - a testament of the quality that Pan Era can provide. Demand for petrochemical is very high and not all recyclers can do that. We are one of the few recyclers in Southeast Asia that can work with petrochemicals and meet their expectations.”
Pan Era also produces Indonesia’s well-known plastic bag brand LOCO, made of recycled material. As a market leader, the company has achieved consistent quality. While there is currently no regulation yet on food-contact material in Indonesia, the global market for recycled plastic bags has been expanding due to increased consumer awareness on the impact of plastics.
The participation of Pan Era at this year’s CHINAPLAS is both an exciting and challenging move for the company. “China is the largest single market for plastics in the world, and it makes sense for Pan Era to enter this market. When demand for plastics is high, the demand for recycled plastic is also high. Plastic consumption in China is very high that we believe that we can find a portion of that market that will make suitable use of our recycled resins,” according to Mr. Pandhika.
While Mr. Pandhika admits that there are many competitors in China, “Pan Era wants to understand this market and find strategies to enter it because we believe that in the long run, this will be worth our efforts because the market is huge. Again, we have the advantages in that we are experienced in what we do and we are focused on producing high quality material. While there are many recyclers in the world, Pan Era operates on the higher end of the structure in terms of quality, and I see that there are not too many recyclers in Asia that can supply recycled resin for multinational companies packaging requirements.” Aside from meeting Chinese companies at the exhibition, Pan Era also welcomed the chance of meeting global companies as well.
