LASELEC develops system to reduce wire waste in industry

LASELEC, a leader in the UV-laser industry, has designed a new wire-marking system that will reduce wire waste in industry, especially aerospace. The company has developed a method that uses ULYS Modena wire markers and an automatic feeding system to reduce waste from 1 metre to between 4 and 12 centimetres.

Qatar: Recycling aluminium

Recycling aluminium has been shown to provide major economic benefits. As a result, it is appropriate for the aluminium industry to identify, develop, and implement all technologies that will optimise the benefits of recycling. In Qatar, aluminium cans can now be recycled thanks to a COP18/CMP8 Doha legacy project. The first bulk recycling unit has been set up in the city centre, opposite the Ministry of Environment. The ambition is for the pilot scheme to be rolled out to become a nationwide pr

Easier multi-tool use software

The conventional way of setting up multi-tools in a machine system data file is challenging, not to forget time consuming. Nevertheless, a new concept change in sheet metal CAD/CAM software promises significant support for multi-tools. This enhanced software helps the design and manufacturing process industry sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, electronic and medical in the Middle East and Africa.

Accurate tactile measurement scanning

Digital laser scanner brings laser scanning in the accuracy range of tactile inspection. It is a viable alternative to a tactile probe for an increasing number of high-precision CMM applications in the Middle East and Africa, including moulds, small turbine blades, medical devices and other complex geometry.

Maximising machine efficiencies

Since the dawn of machining, the manufacturing industry has looked for ways to squeeze greater efficiencies out of existing equipment, materials and labour. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining were huge steps in the right direction several decades ago. But in recent years, we have seen only small, incremental improvements in machining productivity.

Namibia: South Africa’s epicenter for uranium mining growth

Namibia’s real GDP has witnessed an average annual growth rate of approximately 4.5% in the past decade. This can be attributed to growth in the mining, retail and wholesale and manufacturing sectors. Namibia has managed to maintain a stable macroeconomic environment, low budget deficit, and improved fiscal and monetary policies. Buoyed by the existence of significant uranium deposits in the country, capital investment projects and growth in international demand for nuclear energy is increasing.

Finite element analysis in roll forming application

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a computer-driven modelling method used to evaluate the quality and performance of products and processes prior to actual production. When applied to the roll forming process, FEA qualifies the design of the roll tooling prior to its manufacturing.

Oman’s growing position as metals hub

Industry experts say that the high demand for steel tubes has strengthened the industrial position of the Sultanate of Oman as a production base for tubes, pipes and welding solutions and machinery, while the region is scaling up its utility projects as well as railway networks and construction and infrastructure projects. It is estimated that the steel tube industry will see an annual double growth in Oman until 2015.
